What is  Equine Assisted Services?

There are many names for this modality. They all have one thing in common, "Equine Assisted" It is an emerging field in which horses and people partner together to bring positive change and harmony to their lives. In each session there is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and equine specialist.

Equine Assisted Services are experiential in nature. This means that participants learn about themselves by participating in activities with the horse(s), and then they process or discuss behaviors and patterns that were discovered during the initiatives. This approach has been compared to the ropes courses used by therapists, treatment  facilities, and human development courses around the world. Equine Assisted Services has the addition of utilizing the human equine connection. A connection that is as old as the hills. Horses, mirror our energy and intention, they look for our leadership.

Not all programs or individuals who partner with horses use this style of training.

The focus of this modality is not riding or horsemanship. It involves setting up initiatives involving horses which will require the client or group to apply certain skills in order to be successful. Non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking, problem solving, taking responsibility, teamwork, relationships, confidence, and attitude are several examples. Being Coherent is number one. Having your heart and brain work together cohesively is key.

This approach has a powerful and an incredible impact on individuals, youth, families, and the military helping with the transition from war, or deployment back to civilian life. It addresses a variety of challenges associated with PTSD.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
